Sendai tansu (chests of drawers) are a type of traditional craft that has been passed down in Miyagi Prefecture since the late Edo period, which ended in the mid-19th century. They are very valuable items. Originally, they were made to hold swords and kimono. In the city of Sendai, Miyagi, there is a restaurant that serves Japanese-style meals in tansu. We encourage you to sample this tansu cuisine, in which beautifully prepared Japanese-style dishes are found in each drawer.
